Creative Motivation

 The inspiration for "Tearing" stems from heartbreaking real events: Lin Yi-han wrote Fang Si-Chi's First Love Paradise to expose a life destroyed by emotional manipulation and psychological abuse. The film uses a literary perspective to tear through silence, pointing out that such tragedies transcend geography and eras, representing a collective wound of human society.

Over time, whether it is events in the South Korean entertainment industry or recent cases of sexual violence inside and outside school campuses in Malaysia, they serve as constant reminders that these tragedies are far from gone. This news continues to sting society, making us even more convinced that

this movie must be made.

Project Overview

Movie Title:
Tearing《撕文》

Genre:
Drama / Realism

Director / Screenwriter:
Auguste Kwan (关德辉)

A realism film that deeply explores female empowerment and social gender issues. The story spans three different eras and cities: 1940s Shanghai, 1980s Hong Kong, and 2020s Kuala Lumpur. Inspired by real-life events, the film combines prototype stories of figures like Eileen Chang and Lin Yi-han, supported by the social background of child marriage news in Southeast Asia, showcasing women's struggles and awakenings in traditional and modern societies.

As a film with a unique narrative and theme, "Tearing" possesses not only strong artistic value but also aims to become an influential milestone piece like Korea's Parasite and Silenced, Hong Kong's The Last Dance and A Simple Life, or Mainland China's Grandma's Letters, bringing profound emotional resonance to audiences.

"A powerful film does not only break the silence;
it can serve as a starting point to shake reality and improve society."

Synopsis

Through the interwoven fates of three women across different eras, "Tearing" shows their resistance and awakening under oppression.

Ling Wenhan in the 1980s is caught up in the taboo romance of a teacher-student relationship, until a painful realization allows her to see the truth clearly.

Han Wenhui in 2020s Kuala Lumpur, a high school student aspiring to become a writer, falls into a storm of mind control due to the influence of a famous alumnus writer.

Their experiences mirror one another, forming a tapestry of female self-awakening across generations.
